Ok i just recently got my first pedal . A used Boss super chorus now i got the itch to find the next one . So far i have been practicing some Rush, Alice in Chains ,Brian Adams(summer of 69 ) and looking at some Nirvana . I was researching the differences and what songs use Distortion or fuzz . Im thinking Distortion may be the next . What would you get ? Im trying not to spend to much because i may eventually upgrade my amp to a Boss Katana type set up. Write now i have a Crate G-60.

You can get decent, low-priced pedals on the internet: Donner, Ammoon, Tone City. They won't break the bank and will give you an idea about what sound you're looking for. Look for used ones too. I don't use multi-FX pedals, but some here do and may want to chime in.

the boss sd1 is a great dist pedal.

I have a pile of pedals but if i just wanted a straight up distortion I'd get a Rat or Distortion+.

I'll Second RegularJims suggestion. I have the Rat, Bigmuff (wicker), a LDO close I built from mammoth and a "Styilish fuzz" from Donner.

The Donner morpher was the surprise hit. I got it because of the price and it sounds great.
The Muff Is great but I find it really hard to get what I want. It's either way too much or not quite enough.

My problem with fuzz (not so much distortion) is volume. to make sound good you need to feel it in your teeth. I'm pretty the neighbours on the other side of my apartments thin walls won't feel the same way.

Yeah.....there's quite a few. A good number are actually clones of other pedals.

I never thought I’d be that guy, but you could get a Tube Screamer. Lots of different models to fit any price range, but they all sound roughly the same! That, or an MXR Distortion+

I was just checking out some MXRs i was doing research to see what Alex Lifson of Rush used and some say he used Mxrs . Not like im going to sound like him though (need years of practice). I have seen the used Mxr Prime used for $29.00 on Guitar centers site. Not sure how good they are though.

Don't be paralyzed by indecision. Take the first step. Buy something inexpensive and figure out what you like/don't like.

Yeah, I've got one. It doesn't even make a good paperweight. Stupid thing is made of plastic.

    Thankfully it was free.
