After a pretty fractured shipping process, ‘Miss Fanny’ has finally arrived... but, just to confound things a little further, the Seller didn’t send the old strings & it’s a Public Holiday weekend in Oz

    Miss Fanny meets Crazy Chester...

but, coz it’s the Stupid Queen’s Stupid Birthday in Oz today, Miss Fanny hasn’t yet had the opportunity to dress like the respectable lady she surely is

Perhaps that’s what this mystery extra hole, hidden under the neck plate, is intended for :hmm:

My Strat has a similar hole, I was told it was where they hung it while they applied the finish.

I’ve long been a D’Addario guy for my acoustics &, especially, my basses but, seeing as my universe altered with the arrival of a new millennium (2006) instrument, I thought I might as well try something new to dress Miss Fanny.

@RTH, or @vomer, or any of you other ’Boys from the Basement’ got a view on these Dunlops?

I've never used Dunlop strings. Would it surprise you if I told you that I don't really have a preference when it comes to bass string brands? I like em old and dead.

I used to always use Roto Sound strings... but they moved outside my pay bracket... Now getting paid has moved outside my pay bracket :dunno:

Yeah, bass strings in general are pretty expensive. Especially if you play more than 4 strings. I used to chase that snappy, bright tone when I was playing in heavier rock bands. But that tone only lasts for a week or so, then its time to change them out to get that tone back. Very frustrating and pricey. When I got into an alternative/rock/folk type outfit, I realized that the duller sound of old strings was more suited to the style. That and old bass strings have a more consistent sound to my ears. I don't change them until they start to corrode...and I found that if I wipe them off with WD-40 after playing they can last for years .

To be honest, I don't even know what brand are on my bass. Whatever is the least expensive. Probably D'adarrio .

Hey, I play bass strings until they snap & take the drunmer’s eye out... but I do like the smell of WD-40 in the morning :D

I've never snapped a bass string. Not for lack of trying though! I'd use WD-40 for aftershave...if I ever shaved. Seriously though, it pulls the sweat and moisture out of the strings. Fantastic stuff. People say to use fancy string cleaners and other high falutin' stuff, but I'm just a simple guy with simple tastes.

Stu, sorry late in to this, very nice. And, what Robin said. I'm not really a bass player, (although I can't put my new Squier P Fretless down at the moment), but I'm definitely a cork sniffer when it comes to tone, and I do prefer something played in. I don't know the Dunlops myself.

Edit: I nearly bought a 1966 Rivoli the other day... it didn't have the original bridge, so it was a narrow escape for my bank account, even though it was a bit of a bargain.
