Why are Gibson's worse than Epiphones?

Yeah it's crazy right? Like if guitarists started applying budget guitar logic to a leather bag that comes with a twilly, they'd go absolutely bonkers. That's why I say just get whatever makes you happy (and of course within your budget). There's no need to justify the price - just like...

Most of the videos don't show this, but from personal experience, I'd tape the truss rod and also lightly vaseline the outside of the tape before you do the epoxy. You might not be able to pull out all the tape once the neck's fixed, but at least it prevents the epoxy from getting all over the...

    Exposed wood on Head corner

Welcome. The pic isn't clear, but there's exposed wood and then there's exposed wood. If all it is is the finish having chipped off, the wood is still likely protected by the gobs of sanding sealer they used to prep the wood for paint - so I wouldn't worry too much about the moisture thing. If...

Why are Gibson's worse than Epiphones?

Wait, which part? The part that a Hermes doesn't need to be better to justify the price tag or that she'd be better off with a Kevlar bag  or both I think the message should be that her one Hermes bag can get you a couple Gibbies, a boutique amp... and she'd still have change for that...

I"m no luthier, but have fixed headstock breaks (with the guidance of a luthier teaching me how to do it). Epoxy would do the trick if you have enough contact and will last you until get those splines in. CA won't hold.

Why are Gibson's worse than Epiphones?

Yeah it's a real shame that those types of stores don't really exist anymore. I remember all the way up to undergrad, I could still walk into a Radio Shack and grab parts for my engineering projects. Even built my first pedal using parts from there (using a very cheap plastic enclosure). And...

Yeah, I figured splines would be the way to go. Ted has an amazingly steady hand for a portable hand router job.

Hope the repair goes well!!! Not sure if this is what is meant by backstrap, but this maybe it's something along the lines of this: Splines should do the trick just fine. I supposed you'd probably need to make a custom clamping caul for that.

Why are Gibson's worse than Epiphones?

For me, when buying a Gibson, it's more akin to something along the lines of buying a PP or Rolex. You're basically paying for something that by design is bound to be flawed, but carries along with it a whole crap-ton of brand goodwill. It's not for everyone, and the "premium" features do not...

My vote would be to go w/o the pickguard so as to not disturb the teardrop. But between those two choices, my pick would be the black pearl.

Epiphone ES 335 IG fret size

Then at least we know that Gibson inc treats 6105 sized frets as "medium jumbo". The Gibsons I measured included both before and after the Chapter 11 era. Each maker interprets fret size and neck shapes slightly differently, so unfortunately it's never really an apples to apples comparison...
