Good afternoon everyone. I'm new here, and I joined to find out the year of an Epiphone Sheraton that I inherited that is signed by BB King. I've googled how to date it, I've searched here and either overlooked the way to date mine, so I figured I'd just come out and ask. I actually have two of these guitars, but if I can get an answer how to read this one it'll give me the answer for both as the serial numbers are very similar. It's a Korean made Sheraton. Serial number S9324362. I'd appreciate the help!

I've read that the first number is the year, so 1989, 1999, or 2009. My best guess is that it's a 1999, but could be a 1989 basing this off of when my cousin got this. But I've read the next 2 numbers are supposed to be the month and 32 doesn't make sense obviously.

made in 1993 at the korean Samick factory

probably Feb according to the '2' in the serial#
production/rank numbers had not been in the 5-digit area back then

NOTE: Pre 1994 productions also frequently omitted factory letter codes and appeared as all numbers. e.g. 3042779
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    FYYMMRRRR

      • F/FF = Factory code (No factory designator for some 1993 and earlier models)
      • Y/YY = Year of manufacture (Single digit for some 1997 and earlier models)
      • MM = Month of manufacture
      • RRRR = Ranking number (may be more or less digits)
    Example: 3021234 = Samick Korea / 1993 / February / unit 1234
    Example: S3021234 = Samick Korea / 1993 / February / unit 1234
    Example: S93021234 = Samick Korea / 1993 / February / unit 1234
    Example: SI01021234 = Samick Indonesia / 2001 / February / unit 1234

    Example: SI010212345 = Samick Indonesia / 2001 / February / unit 12345

Hang on , hang on, hang on. If this is signed by BB King, we need pics and the back story.

Sorry, I just saw these. I can upload a pic or two shortly. My cousin recently passed away and these guitars were his. He worked for various record labels over the years and in turn met many big name musicians. I've seen pics with him and Gun and Roses (minus Axl) at dinner, schmoozin with others from the 70's and 80's. Well, I don't know when he met BB but he bought these two Epis (imagine if they were Gibson 335's) and had BB sign them. They've sat ever since, and his sister inherited everything. I'm going to be listing them on reverb for her shortly to sell.
