A cold and rather dramatic Southerly ripped through late yesterday afternoon dropping the temperature considerably.
The nice thing about a Southerly here is that they are usually a short lived front that results in clear skys and calm days untill the next Nor-Wester hits. (usually in a day or two)

We had a nice warm, sunny, early spring day. High temps of 58F but colder temps and some precip are on the way for the next day or two.

Calm and overcast.
Looking for a high of 18C today.
I'd go for a paddle but I've got to design a couple of pairs of competition togs for Welly Synchro. Justine is chair of the local Synchonised Swimming team.

Very gloomy, dead clam, and cold early this AM. Eventually the sun broke through, the wind came up, and it turned out to be a decent day with a high around 50F.

Shipping season has begun on the Great Lakes with the first boat* of the season out of Duluth the "Lee A Tregurtha" leaving the Duluth Harbor.

Here, it's 50°F warmer.

* Yes, boat.

The ore boats are moving again. We used to watch some of the smaller "Lakers" coming into Green Bay via the Fox River but nothing that big. Most were hauling coal or cement and a few other sundries.

You chaps get some real downpours when it rains there, I watch one of your countrymen on Youtube called Marty T, He's a real good mechanic & heavy plant fitter.
He shows the devastation the rains cause where he lives & it's brutal.

It's a day of sunshine & showers with a stiff breeze here today with a high of 12C.

Yes, indeed. The Northern and Central parts of our North Island have taken a drenching in the later part of cyclone season.
T.C.s don't usually make it this far South with such regularity but it's been an odd year with the 3rd La Nina in a row.
It's the West Island that usually cops it.

We're back to strong Nor- Westers today.

Here's one of the swimsuits I designed yesterday with an Eastern European theme to fit the music they're swimming to.

Quite literally.

The American Mariner departing last night with a load of iron ore pellets.

Since everyone here is probably familiar with the Edmund Fitzgerald it might be interesting to note the American Mariner shown here is roughly the same size boat as was the Fitzgerald. Given their length it's pretty easy to see how a fully loaded ore boat might not have fared too well in gale force winds and 35 foot seas during the November 10, 1975 storm.
