I didn't go into this yesterday . I put D' Addario Auto Trim tuners on this guitar . First time ever replacing tuners on a guitar . This is a 1998 guitar , so that may be a part of it , but I had to enlarge ( not a lot ) the holes in the headstock (9/16 - 5/8) in order to install . Tomorrow I will be able to fill you in on the function ( heard a few horror stories ) of them .

I installed D'Addario Auto Trim Tuners on this guitar .

I feel these have gained a " bum" rap because people are " too in a hurry" to use them correctly . Granted I have only had these installed 2 days . I have " over tuned & under tuned " and have yet to break a string . I will admit the "instructions" are a bit vague and lacking . And yes the top side ( string post ) is just " plain " coated steel ..... so those who like bright , shiny and flashy will be disappointed . Most pics I have seen from people who "bitch " about them breaking strings , have about 2 - 3 wraps on post . These are locking tuners . There is a " stud " ( I'll try to get a better pic )

on top of each post . That stud should be pointed towards the bridge before you start . Loosen thumbscrew and pull string through post . You can leave a bit of slack if you wish , but once the strings " stretch " it's not necessary . Tighten thumbscrew . Hold remainder of string at a "downward " angle as you tighten/tune string . Usually only takes 4 or 5 twists of tuning knob before string is cut off flush with post . Repeat for each string .
