I bought this unseen from 1150 km away two months ago, knowing I was driving by eventually. I just picked it up 4 days ago. It's having a good cleaning and a setup for the moment, but it's promising. I like it.

What makes it a special Special ? It is a 2018 bolt-on and can't be found anywhere.

Here's a car porn photo for now.

This small LP is like candy, so good ! P90 are melodious and aggressive. With its maple neck, it sounds really clear. I don't know what the fretboard is made of, but it is almost black.

Nice transparency of the TV Yellow, which is unfortunately not visible on these pictures. I'll take some more with natural light.

What's curious is that Epiphone doesn't respond for details. It's a 2018, but I've never seen it in a catalog or on a store site.

Some kind of FSR? The 2V/2T configuration with the switch on the upper bout is unusual for a Special, ne c'est pas?

I love those models. I bought a used one for $80 a couple years ago then gave it to my jam buddy as somewhat of a gift. He still has it. If I can find another like it that plays as well as that one does I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Congrats Jean.

Sorry Jean, yes it was that model. They sold for around $120 new. Should have paid more attention to your pics. Chalk it up to some early AM brain dysfunction.

I just took close-ups of the veneer grain, outside on a cloudy rainy day. Most if not all supposedly TV Yellow past Epiphone Specials had more of a mustard solid color.

Took it off, don't like it, don't need it :)

I asked for specific info to the dealer who I thought initially sold it, no help at all.

    Hi Jean,
The first numbers of the s/n would indicate that this is a 2018 model, built in December, If I am not mistaken.
The only characteristic that I see that is different from the Current Epi Les Paul Specials is the lack of a bound fingerboard.
    The current model has binding.
It looks to me to be a standard Les Paul Special, but honestly the Custom Shop models do not look much different.

Sorry I don’t have more info, but Epiphone do not document these models as well as their higher end models.
    I hope this helps somewhat.

Looks like the specs are those of the set neck Inspired by Gibson LP Special.

A very beautiful Special II with P90s, Congratulations!

I've never seen a screw-necked Epi Les Paul without a metal neck plate on the back, do you reckon this is factory?

Thanks. Not a Special II, just a Special. It looks like they made this model only one year

Yes, no plate is from factory, they also made a Studio like that, with body carved at the joint. Not so on mine.

They both look like transitional models that didn't make it further. My say is they were both too good for their price point :naughty:
