So I’m willing to accept that I might just need to change some preference, but I’ve looked many times and cannot find it.

The problem is that for weeks now, if I create a thread, or comment on a thread, or just click follow the thread, it seems that over time, alert requests get forgotten and I no longer get alerts for those threads.

Any helpful ideas would be helpful. :)

Are you actively participating in the thread? I find that if I let even a thread like "How's the Weather" "Where's Lanc...." or the Covid-19 thread go without a response for more than say a couple days the algorithm decides I'm not interested - even if I actively read them daily and "like" posts.

TL;DR It seems to be based on your responses.

I've noticed this, too. It happens on all the XenForo guitar/gear forums I've been on. I'll stop getting notified of threads I've participated in after a while. I suspect Raiyn is spot on.
