Due to current restrictions on both time and space all anticipated modifications have been postponed for the foreseeable future. :dunno:

Excellent. That should keep you sane later.
I've done a bit of research before starting this project. I also put extra work and attention in the preperation and sanding before spraying. By the looks of it i hardly have to do any level sanding and polishing. As it looks now it is very smooth and glossy. I'm now slowly building up the thickness of the clearcoat

I took GIR and Hello Nurse over to my buddy's house for our first real hang session in a couple years. I was quite surprised to see how much he enjoyed playing the 24" scale Jag as he's usually a full length Fender guy. Next time, he's invited over to the house to pay with the other toys he hasn't seen yet.

Man, there are some gorgeous guitars in this thread.

OK so what's happening here? Winter months are tweaking time for stuff and adding upgrades or changes to the fleet. So here goes.

1) My G&L M2000 bass is finally getting a new set of G&L Pressurewounds. They are my Goldilocks string choice due to their versatility. I've been playing it with a set of DR Lo Riders which are full round wounds and while they work well tonally I'm just not as happy with the "feel" and playability and maybe it's because I'm more accustomed to the Pressurewounds. So all of my basses save the PBass with it's thumpy La Bella Flats will sport Pressurewounds.

2) There is an aluminum tail piece sitting in the music room waiting to be installed on my ES 339. Waiting on that to decide what I will restring it with. No rush. I need to order more strings anyway and have pretty much decided to convert from D'Addario XLs to Curt Mangans. The XLs have gotten pricier and the Curt Mangans seem to last longer. Plus they're produced here in Cortez, CO. Gotta feel the state economy.

3) Last is a set of Bill & Becky Lawrence/Wilde Alnico Micro-Coils for my blonde Tele. I converted it back to a Nashville setup a while ago but now having two S types it's going back to it's roots as a '52 Tele type with pickups I've long been wanting to try. I already play Wilde Keystones in another Tele and want to compare the two tonally.

That's about it.

Is that a local thing? Out of curiosity, I went to the Curt Mangans site and they want ≈$9 a pack. I get my EXL-110BT's for ≈$5. Or do you mean the NYXL's?

Not done today but over the last few days.

I think my Gibson SG Tribute has a bit of an identity crisis and really wanted to be an Epiphone SG Classic Worn P90, so in this day and age who am i to keep it from being itself and feeling comfortable..
So i put in a Gibson P94T in the neck and a Lollar Novel 90 in the bridge which i both had laying around (tried both of them in my BFG before putting the Burstbucker 3 back in the bridge).
Sounds very good with the P94T having A5 magnets making it sound clear without ever getting muddy and the Lollar with A2 in the bridge to give it a little warmth so it doesn't sound shrill. Very good combo in this setup.

And on my STD 50's i replaced the cream plastics for black and a custom pickguard. I got the inspiration from a 70's tobacco burst custom i saw online

My strings

I play half size 9.5-44 or 9.5-46 sets which are $7 a set from D'Addario and those aren't available in 10 paks or 3 paks and I seldom see them on sale now. Also the Curt Mangan Hex and Round Core Nickel Wounds are pretty much the equivalent of the NYXL's that sell for $12.99. I also buy mine at 15%-20% off so I'm paying just a little over $7 a set for his and others can as well along w/free shipping.

I have 10 electric guitars and the D'Addarios often lose their sparkle just sitting on the rack especially in a humidified room when I haven't even played them that much. Curt's strings seem to last longer and he also sell half size Pure Nickel sets which few others do as well as 52 Alloy and Monel sets and bass strings of various types.

He can't produce the volume D'Addario can but he has a very broad selection and will custom make sets to order in quantity in whatever material and gauges someone wants. I was pretty much devoted to D'Addario for years when I bought them for even less than $5 a set but if I can buy Curt's string for roughly the same $7 price I'll do it and support another small CO business. He makes a very good product.

Cortez, CO is a small town of around 9,000 tucked away in the "Four Corner" region of CO where four states (AZ, NM, CO, and UT) all touch borders. Beautiful area. He's also employing local labor and helping that regional economy and I'd prefer to give my business to him than a NY company if and when I can. Haven't used his acoustic strings yet but I plan to eventually and for bass I always play GHS Pressurwounds or La Bella Flats on my PBass. Guess I'm a creature of habit.

If you want to try some I'm placing an order soon. If you can tell me what you'd like I can add it to mine and I can ship yours to you. They may cost you a couple bucks more a set but at least you can try them out and see if you like them any better. Just let me know. And if anyone else would like to do the same I'll work something out too.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a paid shill for Curt Mangan. I just like his product and I can typically get them at a discount.

The black works really well with the dark border i think and the gold knobs with the amber/yellow middle.
I can't remember what i was searching for but an LP custom tobacco burst from the 70's popped up between the images on google and i quite liked it. The cream plastics pop out a bit much and this just looks a bit more subdued.

I'll have to think about it, as I've amassed a bit of a backstock. There were points •especially during lockdown • when I needed wanted something overnight from Amazon and a pack of strings or picks would tick the minimum order over the threshold.

If I were to do it, I'd mimic a set of the balanced 10's.
10 • 13.5 • 17 • 25 • 34 • 46.

For whatever reason I like 'em on damn near everything. The only reason I stock 9's is for the Strat and half the time I wonder why. Probably because everyone makes a 9 and I can try brands out?
