As the thread title asks, what is your dream guitar? By that, I mean what guitar have you always wanted but couldn't afford or couldn't acquire for some reason? Maybe you are even lucky enough to own your dream guitar.

Whatever the case, I'm looking forward to reading your responses. Multiple answers are welcome if you have more than one dream guitar.

My answer is kind of a long story.

In 1999, I was working a crappy fast food job, going to school, and trying to play gigs with my band. I was still searching for my perfect sound. I walked into my local guitar shop with the guitar I was playing at the time (a Squier Super Sonic in sparkly blue. A hard to find guitar nowadays). It sounded good, but it wasn't what I was looking for.

I looked over and played a bunch of different guitars for about thirty minutes and then I saw the guitar that would continue to haunt me for the rest of my life: A blue 1998 Gibson SG Deluxe.

I took it down, played it, and I loved it. I wanted to trade in my Squier and pay the difference right there. The shop owner was willing to do the deal, but I don't know how, but he talked me out of it. He said "You won't like it after a while because of the tremolo and three mini humbuckers."

While it's true that I have never been a big fan/user of tremolos, blue isn't my most favorite color, and three pickups isn't usually my thing. Hell, it might not have even been the best guitar for the style of music that I play, but it didn't matter to me. It played and sounded great. That's all that mattered...

Either way, he ended up talking me out of it. I regret it to this day. I wish I had bought it. They show up on ebay from time to time but when they do I never have the money to get one.

Anyway, I ended up walking out of the shop with a sunburst LP that day which I got rid of about a year later for an Explorer.

My love for SG's hasn't worn off, obviously (I have two). I still want a 1998 SG Deluxe though. Since then, I have never let a guitar shop person try to tell me what I like or don't like. But, hey, it was 17 years ago and I was younger and dumber. Sue me. Haha.

Here's a pic of my Holy Grail:

I've bought most of my 'dream guitars' during the last years....

I don't plan to sell any of those FGNs

though there is one I probably never will get, 'cause it isn't a 'regular' model
so I have to dream about her

I did get my dream guitar, but it didn't fulfill it's purpose.

Who wouldn't want a Yellow DC LP with P90, right ? I luckily stumble upon a Korean Epiphone LP DC near here and got it for a good price. Man was I excited !
Turned out it didn't rest well on my knee when playing sitting, which I do most of the time. Everything felt a little off while playing it. Weight balance was all to the rear. It wasn't light either, and I love light guitars. The tone was there and all, but physically we didn't bond. To bad cause it was a looker !

I already owned my dream guitar, but sadly, I let it get away from me.

A 1973 SG Standard. Had the Tarbacks in it.
I bought this guitar in 1984, with a Traynor YGL-3 mark 3 amp, for $350.
I sold the SG in 2010 for $1500, I still have the Traynor.
I still dream about the SG, & would gladly trade ALL my gear to have her back.:frown:

My uncle's original, one owner (him) 1960 2TSB Strat. He has the original case as well as the receipts. He bought it in December 1959. Paid 500 bills for it, the case and an Ampeg amp. I was 5 at the time and was living with my grandparents. My grandfather blew a gasket when he found out how much it was. I can still see him "yelling" at my uncle.

He still has it and plays it every so often. Unfortunately the amp disappeared 30 or so years ago.

I have a few of my dream guitars, the Casino and the Lester, but there's still a few that make me drool..

    A Gibson 57 jnr DC
    An original 'burst
A 335 - though for some reason recently that desire has faded a bit!

I have a romantic yearning for a Rick, all to do with the Who and the Jam... And all the Mod bands I grew up listening to... But I know they are limited sound wise so unless I find myself with some huge cash surprise I doubt I'll ever get one!

The next "dream" that is likely to come true is a Fender Jazz deluxe - my first bass when I was 17 was a Jazz copy so I've always wanted the real deal and Ive never had an active bass.

I've always wanted a Rick Like Geddy played. I've never played one so Who knows maybe i wouldn't like it but shit! Look at that thing!

Other than that, a nice 335. I have a dot(1990) and i love it, but you can see the cheapness of it sometimes. It sounds nice but the pot are cheap and the nut feels like its the same plastic as the pick guard. I'll fix that soon enough, I've on;y had it a month and a still deciding what to do.

I started playing guitar as an adult so I dont think I have any stories about waiting years for a dream guitar to come around. But I started out with acoustics and then when i first saw a really nice archtop I knew wanted one. So I looked around and saw this Loar and I had to have it, it took maybe 3 months for me to find one.

This was my number 1 up until I started playing louder and with a band, then feedback became an issue so I had to move onto electrics and the closest thing that resembles an archtop is a Les Paul so I went that route. So from there I went on for the search for a Les Paul and I discovered Customs, they immediately became my dream machines. I took to craigslist and got lucky with this find, a Pelham blue Epi with upgraded pups. This was my first Les Paul Custom that I got and I been hooked ever since. I've have a handful of LP's now but I don't think I will ever sell this one.

And up to today they are the guitars I enjoy the most, playability wise and aesthetically. I do have this picky thing about some Les Pauls though. If they have binding on the top, then they have to have back binding, I know its a strange preference, but this was why I sold an ESP and a Charvel, really nice guitars, just felt wrong with no back binding. towards the future Im looking forward to getting a Les Paul from Edwards
