Haven’t seen him around for awhile & miss hearing about the crap weather in Lancashire.

Last here Jan 11th

LOL I thought my ears were burning :D apologies chaps for not keeping you informed of my abscence:frown: I've been having a break & been really busy sorting out the garage so I can get my old Rover in there as well as a new one I'm getting, I didn't trade in the Rover because they only offered scrap value for it i.e. £100. :frown: A once in a lifetime opportunity came up so I grabbed it & for the first time in 45 years of driving I'm getting a new car, a Kia Niro.:)

I'm going to pick it up in a few hours time......I may be gone for a while again lol.

Yep the weather is still greyer than a grey guy watching fifty shades of grey on a grey TV :D....and raining, it was sou'wester weather yesterday & today is 0C and icy this morning.

Picked it up this morning & it drives very smooth & quiet indeed, It shifts seamlessly from electric drive to petrol motor, It took a bit of getting used to as I've always driven old classic cars with barely an electronic aid besides lights & wipers
There is just so much tech in this thing it will take me a month to go through the 'war & peace' size manual to read up on all the gadgets/gizmo's & toys:wow:

There's no starter motor as such :dunno: when you get in & select dribve it just glides off in electric mode until it gets to a certain speed then the atkinson cycle petrol engine kicks in seamlessly.

It's a bit disconcerting when you come to a stop/traffic lights and the engine cuts out, you think it's stalled or something & habit being what it is you reach for the ignition key.

There is a 'Sport' manual mode on the 6 speed double clutch gearbox which is like those DSG gearboxes and is very nippy, really good for getting out of a busy road junction sharpish.

Those reversing cameras are ACE:cool: They should be installed on every car. The beauty of it is an old fart like me doesn't even need to crane his neck to see behind them, very nice indeed.:D

I took a few pics. :)

Very nice Ian!

My Honda is fast but those electric cars are the fastest of the lot I read!

OMG! That almost looks like a sunny sky in those photos, or is it just my imagination?

I’m heading to Blighty in July and I’d appreciate it if I didn’t have to wear 3 layers of clothes like I did last time. Can you arrange that for me please?

I might have a long sleeve shirt some where but no jumpers or coats! Are you saying I can’t wear shorts all the time?

On reflection I should have asked what day does summer occur in the UK and then made bookings so we don’t miss it!

Yep it’s all those other buggers that have the wheel on the wrong side I agree Ian.

Bloody foreigners~

To be honest Cobber they already do that here~

LOLOL :D

I've been trying to get my head around these new fangled gadgets in the car, I succeeded in 'pairing' my mobile phone to the thingymejig in the car :D I've run out of technical terms lol.

My sister rang me whilst I was in the car & I'd not a clue how to accept the incoming call with the buttons on the steering wheel  I think I need to read through the car manual more, it might save on the headaches & swearing. :D

I try not to be on the phone while driving, even hands free. The only real exception was fleeing the hurricane. Coordinating 3 vehicles would've been a nightmare without them. Although I think we'd have been better off with the set of GMRS walkie talkies I picked up in Georgia. One button and the whole party hears it.

Our Honda is like that too! By the time you fit the handbook in the glovebox, there’s no room for anything else! 10 pages on operating the doors alone!

My phone and bluetooth pair as soon as I switch on the ignition (once they find each other initially) and it answers automatically and disconnects automatically. Also turns the music down and back up on it’s own. Apart from that the other controls are a mystery.

Handheld radios are limited to line of sight unless there are repeater stations in range and at that time they would have been congested.

Yeah me too Raiyn, I was parked up in the car at the time, when I took mam for her hospital appointment yesterday the visitors car park was full (even at 8:30 am) and the parking warden there hands out parking tickets like he's feeding strawberries to a donkey if you're not in a parking bay
So I had to park away from the hospital grounds and await the phone call to pick her up from the main front doors when she was ready.

LOL It got worse later that day with these smart mobile phone doodahs! I had to reply to a text message from the dealership I got this car from by texting & I couldn't for the life of me do it :D

I've thrown the damn thing in the drawer again. :thumb:
